14 Months - 100% Neutral French Oak
December 12th, 2019
Deep, dark and brooding at first glance. Dark plum, boysenberry, fresh tobacco and leather aromatics rise from the glass with slight hints of charcoal. Laser like acidity hits the palate that exposes a much brighter fruit profile then encountered on the nose. Bright rhubarb, red crunchy fruits, and raspberry take over the palate. Tons of age ability that will only benefit the wine and expose how seamless it will be in years to come.
With less than 80 acres left of this varietal in existence (all in California), Charbono is quite a rare grape. Brought to Calistoga from France in the 1880s, the 11.5 acres of Charbono vines planted at Frediani Vineyards are over 80 years old and are widely thought to produce some of the best Charbono fruit in the country.
